Tate Ski Club has a connection to Guthega Village dating back to the 1950s when Guthega Village was first established for the construction of the Guthega hydro electric project.
Originally the club was the Snowy Mountains Authority Ski Club which converted one of the original construction buildings into a ski lodge used until the present lodge was constructed on the same site in 1970, with membership consisting predominantly of current and former employees of the Snowy Mountains Authority and their families. .
At that time the club was renamed. The club membership is at present limited to 125, and continues to be a low cost club due to the contributions of its members to the running and maintenance of the club.
